  • It’s practically a compulsion at this point to list a new item from each show at Jacqueline Sullivan gallery. I like a furniture store that has the ambition to model themselves after an art gallery. The current show is called Play!

    Demure but suggestive.
  • Markarian—a clothing brand known for proper and flowery wedding guest dresses—released a capsule collection with We Norwegians that’s fit for the slopes. I almost missed it, because I’m not looking to add a nice A-line dress in a brocade-y fabric to my collection.

  • One of my favorite corners of Substack is the lunatic first person. Half the time I can’t even tell what’s fiction and fact. I came across a great one this week: “A Coward’s Guide to Eden pt. II.” (“Frederik’s father was the CEO of LEGO.”)

  • Tina Rivers Ryan is out at Artforum. “Two years ago, when I took the job, I heard there were some who thought I was being shameless.” (No comment.) I have found this era of willed irrelevance at Artforum difficult to stomach. This is partially personal! I was very proud to write for them in my 20s; it made older, interesting people pay attention to me when they otherwise wouldn’t. But in a broader sense, art criticism is in greater danger than any of the other bodies of criticism. I know Rachel Wetzler and Daniel Wenger—the newly appointed co-editors—and I genuinely hope for their success. I don’t agree with people who think Artforum shouldn’t exist. It’s very myopic!
