Alex Vadukul is a City Correspondent for New York at the New York Times. As you can imagine, he knows the city extremely well. (He also grew up here, and his parents were quite the sophisticates!) He loves a deep cut of any kind. I asked him for some date spot where you won’t run into anyone you know. I hate running into people I know.

Bar Six: Bar Six might be one of the best French bistros in downtown Manhattan, yet hardly enough people know about it. This absurdly unsung Greenwich Village gem was founded in 1994 and sits on West 13th Street, just a block away from the graveyard sites of Spain and Cafe Loup. It has red banquettes, slow spinning ceiling fans, piano nights and a menu accented with Moroccan influences. But its tiny bar area is the prize: crammed with bistro tables, and moody and dimly lit, it’s the kind of place you loose track of time in.
