Goodbye, DataLounge.

Order a beautiful cake, stay on a remote island in Maine, buy a fall raincoat.

  • The cake landscape is quite competitive. If I was ordering one right now, though, there’s no doubt in my mind it would be from Lauren Schofield. Painstakingly beautiful and inventive work.

  • These “tailored” shirt companies are a dime a dozen, but the fabrics Chava Studio use caught my eye. This shirt. Because what do you wear to a summer meeting. I read about it in the Financial Times.

  • I’m so glad a gay guy wrote about the end of DataLounge. I got a text from a different gay guy about its demise, but it felt as if it was one of those things that was going to disappear without proper approbation. “Many people will not mourn its passing. With its laissez-faire moderation policy, the site earned a reputation as a backwater of unsubstantiated rumors, dodgy politics and—sometimes, to its owners’ chagrin—bigotry.” Just a great assignment.

  • I slipped up and spent an hour on Airbnb. I want to go to Broom Island in Maine, and stay at this remote cottage. The host gives you a boat ride. $6,248 for 7 nights. (North Haven area, see Adam Platt’s trip a few weeks ago.)
