A thing often happens to me where I’m repping someone, and then one of their close friends asks to hire me as well. So much of my business really is word of mouth, with personal publicity in particular, which I usually do as a project fee around a specific news peg, like the release of a book. (It’s not untrue to say I rep entire friend groups.) This was the case with the non-fiction dynamo Emmeline Clein (in fact, I also rep her mother), who sent me a PDF of her friend Eliza Barry Callahan’s elegiac first novel, called The Hearing Test, and soon I was repping that as well. (So many novels are described as elegiac, but hers actually is.)
